For the same reasons you should consider shopping locally:

Money spent and circulated within the community strengthens the local economy .

For every $100 a customer spends on local businesses, about $68 stays in the community. This means local dollars are reinvested back into local businesses.

Thriving local businesses also strengthen the entire community.

When local businesses thrive, it creates streets and neighborhoods where people want to shop, work, live.

Local advertising is more relevant, timely and knowledgeable about local customer’s needs.

Local business owners who have a chance to meet their customers face to face have a real advantage. They can ask direct questions to discover what their customers need. Local advertisers draw on local knowledge of their customers when they make making marketing decisions.

Local advertising is more effective in establishing credibility and trust.

People do business with those they know, like and trust.

By investing their money, time and attention and advertising dollars in local community newspapers, they build mutually beneficial relationships. The dentist who sponsors ads publicizing the league scores not only reaches the parents who are part of her customer base. She is also demonstrating what so many corporate business give lip service to and may throw money at. This is a business has a commitment and personal stake in the community of which it is a part.

To understand the value of advertising locally in a small community newspaper, you must recognize the true value of building a thriving local community.
